WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE PROCESS OF YOUR PROJECT

First, expect that we are going to be professional, courteous and ground penetrating radar experts.  With that said, GPR has certain limitations.  Most of those limitations do not concern most golf course locating surveys.  If we say we can locate something for you, most cases this is true.  If there are soil types that we are unaware of such as heavy clays, GPR is not going to give us the best results.  However, most courses are not affected by this.  Greens are made of sand and gravel.  But, once we are outside of the green for example, looking for irrigation, depending on how the course was built and your local natural soil type, clays or other conductive materials (saltwater, saturated soils, etc.) may interfere with the GPR results.

Beyond the small percentage of issues regarding soils, locating on greens is very accurate.  We will ask for a few things before we start in our pre-survey conversations.  The following is a list of typical requests, but not all courses are the same:

  • Please do NOT fertilize or water greens the night before or before we finish the green.  There are certain chemicals that interfere with GPR.

  • Any maps of the course or as-builts that can be supplied are beneficial.  Helps the survey time decrease.

  • A utility cart to be provided for our equipment and our use for the duration of the survey.

  • Any special events.

  • If your course closes on a certain day.

  • A list of all issues on your course relating to locating, moisture problems, mapping or aerials.  A list of items you wish you had.  As-builts, green contours, overall mapping of the course with GPS, etc.

Once the survey is completed, we will either walk you through the work that was completed, or we prefer a few times during the day, we will give you status updates on progress or issues being noted.  If a report is part of the scope, be assured that we keep notes, record the data and will write our expert opinion of any GPR, GPS related issues.  We will have a hard copy of the report to you in typically 10-14 days from the end of survey, depending on the services we provided.
